Our Story

India has 658
GI-tagged products.
The world knows
almost none of them.

Terroir India was built to change that — one authenticated, traceable, certified shipment at a time.

Saffron harvest in Pampore, Kashmir
The Problem We Solve

India grows the world's
rarest flavours.
Most never reach global tables.

India has 658 Geographical Indication-tagged agricultural products — more than France, Italy, and Spain combined in food categories. Lakadong turmeric with 9–12% curcumin. Byadgi chilli with the world's deepest red. Pampore saffron that outclasses Iran. Himachali Kala Zeera from 3,000-metre Himalayan altitudes.

Yet when a Michelin-star chef in London wants authentic Byadgi chilli, or a wellness brand in California wants verified high-curcumin Lakadong turmeric, they have nowhere credible to go. The supply chain between Indian GI-tagged farming communities and global specialty food buyers simply does not exist at the quality and documentation standard the market requires.

That is the gap Terroir India exists to close.

How We Work

Direct from GI-registered
farming communities.

We work directly with GI-registered farmer producer organisations and individual farming families in 8 Indian states — from Nagaland's Naga King Chilli cooperatives to Kashmir's Pampore saffron growers.

Every supplier relationship includes a formal supply agreement with advance payment at harvest, GPS-tagging of farm plots, and a commitment to EtO-free processing. We do not buy through mandis or brokers.

Our processing is done through BRC and FSSC 22000-certified partner facilities. Every batch is tested at NABL-accredited laboratories for pesticide residues, EU MRL compliance, and product-specific quality markers (curcumin content for turmeric, ISO 3632 grading for saffron, ASTA colour value for chilli).

Our Sourcing Philosophy

Terroir is a French word for a reason.

"Terroir — the complete natural environment in which a particular product is produced, including factors such as the soil, topography, and climate. The term encapsulates the idea that a product's character comes from its place of origin."

We chose this name deliberately. The flavour of Lakadong turmeric is inseparable from the Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya. Byadgi chilli's colour is inseparable from the laterite soils of Haveri district. Pampore saffron's grade is inseparable from the karewa plateau of Kashmir.

We don't sell commodities. We sell places.
